A true story
Goa is famous mainly for its beaches — sun, sea, and sand.
But it is also steeped in history — with influences from the ancient native tribes, Marathas, Mughals, and finally the Portuguese.
Such a mix of cultures gives rise to fascinating stories — folktales passed on from generation to generation as tales by grandmas.
I was born in Goa and grew up listening to such traditional folktales from my grandmother.
Most of them involved Bhoot (Ghosts), Pret (Phantoms), Pishacch (violent mad spirits), and Atma (Souls).
I found the stories scary, but at the same time I couldn’t get enough of them— the thrill of haunting stories was too alluring.
But I had never imagined such a horrifying incident would happen so close to me.
It happened at my grandparent’s ancestral house in the small village called Moira.
